About The Firm

About The Firm

Farnan LLP was founded by Joseph J. Farnan, Jr. after 25 years of service as a United States District Court Judge for the District of Delaware. Our practice focuses on litigation in Delaware’s Federal and State Courts primarily in the areas of complex commercial, patent, mass tort, shareholder, and bankruptcy litigation.

Our lawyers’ experience in Delaware courtrooms as trial lawyers and judges make us uniquely qualified to handle your Delaware case or provide you with advice on critical Delaware matters. In addition to confidential settlements totaling billions of dollars, representative matters in which we served as Delaware Counsel include:

  • Findings of infringement and validity after trial in Hatch-Waxman litigation regarding two patents covering the blockbuster drug Eliquis®.
  • $787.5 million settlement on behalf of Dominion Voting for its defamation claim against Fox News for Fox News’ false reports that Dominion Voting rigged the 2020 presidential election.
  • $575 million settlement on behalf of Maxus Energy for claims against YPF and Repsol over responsibility for clean-up of the Passaic River in New Jersey.
  • $170 million mass tort settlement against national rental car company.
  • $100 million dollar class action settlement on behalf of shareholders of Pattern Energy for allegations of a false and misleading proxy statement in connection with a merger.
  • $84.5 million jury verdict for patent infringement on behalf of Densify against VMware, Inc.

Joe Farnan and Sue Robinson also have confidentially mediated and arbitrated a large volume of high profile cases and complex disputes. Two that have been reported in the news are Joe Farnan’s sale of the Los Angeles Dodgers for $2.1 billion, which at the time was the highest price paid for a North American sports franchise, and Sue Robinson’s arbitration of the dispute between the NFL and quarterback Deshaun Watson relating to allegations of sexual misconduct.
